About Laila

Laila is a vibrant, happy 14 year old who attends Barber Middle School. She enjoys singing, playing the flute, picking out fashionable outfits and meeting new friends. She can light up any room with her infectious smile and we are so proud of her becoming a bat mitzvah!

What is a bat mitzvah?

Bat mitzvah literally translates to “daughter of the commandments.” Laila has spent over 2 years learning to read Hebrew, studying the Torah and learning about her faith. For her bat mitzvah, she will be leading the torah service in our congregation where she will be reading and chanting Hebrew, leading prayers and sharing her special light with the congregation.

What can I expect?

The bat mitzvah service is about 2 hours long. There will be singing, readings and teachings. There is a nursery offered as well as a class for 4-6 year olds. We will also be offering a sensory friendly class for ages 7-15 during this shabbat.

The service lasts around 2 hours and then we will all walk next door to the community center to party, feast and celebrate Laila! Lunch will be served around 1:30pm.
